Every year as I kick off the Great Los Angeles Walk, I usually mention that friendships have been made and relationships have been born out of the event -- and that we've even had a wedding or two! But that mostly came out of anecdotal evidence. Now, we have firm proof -- and from no less a news source than the New York Times!
Congratulations are in order to Cat Lukaszewski and Steve Whalen, who met at the Walk in 2016 -- and just got married on Feb. 10. I met the couple on this year's walk, actually, as they introduced themselves and told me their origin story. Proud to have played a role in getting these two together! And now it has been immortalized in the New York Times wedding pages:
Catherine Ann Lukaszewski was on a small side street in Los Angeles, looking for the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, when she met Steven James Whalen who was looking for the same.
It was November 2016, and they were participating in the Great Los Angeles Walk, a self-guided pedestrian tour of part of the city. When Mr. Whalen saw that Ms. Lukaszewski had a map, something that he lacked, he approached her for directions.
The pair got to talking and were so absorbed in their conversation about historical architecture that they missed the cathedral. They ended up walking together for about four hours, including a stop for lunch.
